Better Together is a modern hexagon quilt pattern built from equilateral triangles. Sixteen hexagons sit in four rows on a white background with a bold coral stripe down one side. It's a digital PDF, finished size 47" x 47", intermediate.

It started with a simple challenge: pick a few fabrics and design a quilt inspired by them. I started with one periwinkle floral and pulled every other color out of it. Coral and blue are pretty fabulous on their own, but with a touch of floral they're definitely better together.

  • One fat quarter each of light coral, medium coral, light blue, medium blue, dark blue, and a blue floral

What is the Better Together quilt pattern? Better Together is a modern hexagon quilt pattern by Kacia Hosmer of Coconut Robot. Coral and blue hexagons are pieced from equilateral triangles and set in rows on a white background with a coral stripe. It's sold as a digital PDF.

What size is the Better Together quilt? The Better Together quilt finishes at 47" x 47". That's a nice size for a lap quilt, a baby quilt, or a wall hanging.

Does Better Together come in other sizes? No, Better Together is written for one size: 47" x 47".

Is Better Together a good quilt pattern for beginners? Better Together is rated intermediate. If you've made a few quilts and are comfortable with a steady ¼" seam, you can do it. The trickier parts are bias edges and matching triangle points, and the pattern has diagrams and tips for both.

Do I need a special ruler for Better Together? No. The pattern includes full-size templates for every shape. If you already own a 60° triangle ruler, you can use it for the triangles instead.

How much fabric do I need for the Better Together quilt? Better Together takes 1½ yards of white, ¾ yard of dark coral, and one fat quarter each of light coral, medium coral, light blue, medium blue, dark blue, and a blue floral. You'll also need 3 yards of backing and twin-size batting.

Can I use a fat quarter bundle for Better Together? Yes. Six of the eight fabrics are fat quarters, so it's a good home for a bundle. Pick one print you love and pull the solids from it, the way I did with the floral.

How are the hexagons in Better Together made? Each hexagon is built in two halves, and each half is part of a row of triangles. You sew rows of triangles and background trapezoids, and the hexagons appear when the rows come together. No Y-seams.

What fabric is used in the Better Together sample quilt? The Better Together sample is made with Kona Cotton Solids from Robert Kaufman and Birch Floral Periwinkle from the Les Fleurs collection by Rifle Paper Co. for Cotton + Steel.

How was the Better Together sample quilted? The sample has echo and decorative quilting inside the hexagons and parallel straight lines across the white background.

How do I get the Better Together pattern after I buy it? Better Together is an instant PDF download, so you get the file right after checkout. Nothing ships in the mail.
