Pop Rocks Quilt Pattern — Lap/Throw Size
Pop Rocks Quilt Pattern — Lap/Throw Size
Couldn't load pickup availability
Pop Rocks is a modern throw quilt pattern with bright triangles scattered across gray and white half-square triangles. It's a digital PDF, finished size 54" x 68", confident beginner.
The blocks are simple. The colored triangles change size and bounce around the quilt, so the finished top looks a lot more complicated than it is to sew (my favorite kind of quilt).

The Pop Rocks quilt finishes at 54" x 68", a throw or lap size. It's big enough for the couch without turning into a bed-quilt-sized project.
Does Pop Rocks come in other sizes?
No, Pop Rocks is written for one size only: a 54" x 68" throw.
Is Pop Rocks a good quilt pattern for beginners?
Pop Rocks is rated confident beginner. If you've made a quilt or two and can sew a steady ¼" seam, you're ready. The pattern walks through each block with diagrams.
How much fabric do I need for the Pop Rocks quilt?
Pop Rocks takes 3¼ yards of white, 1½ yards of gray, and one fat quarter each of pink, orange, yellow, green, and purple. You'll also need ¾ yard of blue for blocks and binding, 3½ yards of backing, and twin-size batting.
Can I use scraps or a fat quarter bundle for Pop Rocks?
Yes, the brights in Pop Rocks only need a handful of small squares each. That makes it a good home for leftover solids or a fat quarter bundle you've been saving.
What fabric is used in the Pop Rocks sample quilt?
The Pop Rocks sample is made with Kona Cotton Solids from Robert Kaufman. The exact color names are listed in the pattern if you want to match it.
What quilting techniques does Pop Rocks use?
Pop Rocks uses the Magic Eight method for the large half-square triangles and the two-at-a-time method for the small ones. The corner triangles are stitch-and-flip. Every technique is shown step by step in the pattern.
How was the Pop Rocks sample quilted?
The Pop Rocks sample was quilted with straight horizontal lines spaced 1" apart. Any simple straight-line or walking-foot quilting works well on it.
How do I get the Pop Rocks pattern after I buy it?
Pop Rocks is an instant PDF download, so you get the file right after checkout. Nothing ships in the mail.
